E34 520 Try out!

6:29 AM 0 comments

My dad who drives a BMW E34 520 with a 525 engine bought the car in a very immaculate condition but the paint was hacked! Ive been wanted to detail it for some time but i know black is the worst colour to be detailed. As a beginner i took it as a lesson and training , as long i didnt burn the paint right? =p
SO i just took up the Front Bonnet as a test session for a black colour so that i could learn from my mistakes.

not forgetting the steps that KC taught me, just gives me a peace of mind that "I can be a detailer!"

My prescriptions for today would be
ONR No Rinse
Meg's detailing clay
OPT Hyper Compound
OPT polish
OPT wax
Meg's UQD
cut with makita's Wool pads as im still waiting for silk wool to arrive
more cutting with lake country ccs yellow cutting pad
lake country polishing pad
and waxed off with my fluffy microfibers

Here are some shots of the hood before anything was done...
dun be fooled by the imba reflection, its because i took these pictures after an ONR wash! so simple it gives a fake shine! easy like 123. wipe wipe wipe and wipe, 4 wipes complete 1 hood wash
it is actually.....
more n more pain...
im sad for this bmw...more sad when its my dad's car

then i started claying the hood, half the hood only.. look at how much contaminants i picked up!
meg's clay is white so its easier to spot how dirty is the car...
look after i clayed and ONR wash again the reflection is just... WAO! but.....
with proper lightining.... it ....shes crying within...

and so i taped up and started with wool pad and OPT compound...
result of 50/50
it doesnt look very satisfying...
so i did another layer of cutting
seems better...
another 50/50 at the middle of the hood

finally i compounded the whole hood and this was the reflection i got..
not very clear tho.. but at least its better from the beginning.

Actually i freaked out when i saw all the buffing marks or holograms. i thought i fcuked up big time..
so i gave KC a call, relieved after his explanation i continue on!

oh btw.. this was wad freaked me out..

continuing to lake country yellow cutting pad with OPT compound
much better i feel but forgot to take pic due to dinner

now finishing off with polish with lake country white polishing pad
tadaaaa

gave another quick ONR wash and applied wax
after waxing i sprayed a layer Meg's UQD just for some finishing touches
at least i get to see my dad in the reflection and not his distorted looks lol
still i see some not perfect places but im too tired edi. i shall fix it during the weekends..
lampu dah pecah but nvm still got posh light..
reflecting my ceiling
i duno im gila or hardcore... but see the sky..
btw i ate dinner outside coz i couldnt stop detailing the baby...

btw.. before ONR wash it was like this but i didnt take the bonnet, this is the roof, same looks from zero to hero..

some shots of the 75% mirror finish, im not satisfied but im determined to do better next time, for now. i really need some rest. ive been detailing non-stop since saturday!

and :bawling: my 300watt halogen bulb burned! was checking for parts i need to touch up too long suddenly POP! burned =( i haz a sad, tmr go buy replacement bulb, surgical gloves and longer extention wire since saturday and sunday will be another detailing weekend...
and oh, no proper lighting cant show the finishing but still got good reflection...

extra goodies for rim lovers...limited edition BBS

Josh

p/s: Thanks KC for the quick tip, calmed me down phew~~~
Since Yesterday, Saturday 26th Feb, after KC's "mastering ur rotor for rotarian clinic", i decided to give all the knowledge and skills i learnt from him and did a free detailing to my best friend since primary school. His dad had a Mazda 323 5 door hatch which is kindof rare as normaly we only see 3 door hatch.

This baby had been abused, left under blazing hot sun, allowed to rust and oxidize KAW KAW!, The owner (my friends dad) did not care much for the car, when scratched he just buys a spray paint with the same colour code and just spray it on, never bother about bird *dung* tat splats on the car basically the car is only maintained when needed and only when needed. AKA only engine oils, transmission oil etc, nothing done to the exterior.
and so..
Today my prescription for this sick baby was..
1. ONR No rise
2. Meguiar Detailing Clay
3. OPT Hyper Compound
4. OPT polish
5. OPT wax
6. Meguiar ultimate quick detailer (UQD)

Lets start with some before shots
Front
Back
The side
The Front Hood
Severed Paint oxidated from heat, never wash, never wax never detailed for 30 years
U can see the light reflection that is so rough!
i can barely see the halogen light

Mission Start with the hood!
I ONR wash it with my new and fluffy microfiber towels
after that i clayed it.. forgot to take the contaminents i picked up during the claying,
clayed it twice with ONR 1:8 dilution as lube.
Makita power up
remember this?
and after a compound with wool pad
50/50

completed a quarter of the hood with just compound and i got this

so i continue with the mid section and the other right section
regain gloss and clarity

my friend helped me check for pain defects swirls, holograms and IDS

almost... but still not there yet. dis-satisfied, i continue to push, baring in mind, this is the first time im doing detailing on other people's car. abit scared abit terrified i persisted and my friend also encouraged me with some motivating words. remembering KC's advice, i continue on! and Finally...
Clarity! Reflection! Perfection!

Reflecting from once a dull, unattractive, No reflection, no gloss, plain "FLAT GREEN" Hood is now..

Due to time restriction as i just reached Ipoh at 3pm, i only had few hours to detail up the car. Luckily, the car is not used over the week so i shall continue on the coming saturday as when i finish its already dinner time :bawling:

1st detailing journey!
I appreciate KC for guiding me without hesitation, it is because of him i can do this. Thank you KC, i deeply appreciate it from the bottom of my heart!:adore:

my gears.
Thanks to Mun from the detailing clinic who gave me the heads up to buy this at ace hardware
Thanks to KC who taught me which rotor is suitable

Again Thanks to KC for sacrificing his personal collection of ONR no rinse wash :bawling: and providing me with essential gears.
and also again Thanks to KC for purchasing me suitable pads & brushes for my mobile detailing
Thanks to Dave,Mun,Joe,Muhammad and Dave's friend who without knowing gave me motivation and support that I can be a car detailer.

Oh and dave, thanks for the coke  i appreciate it, u went too early for me to say thanks!

End my post here, will continue to post the detailing process of this baby soon.

some extras when i went out with the car for dinner before returning it to the owner...
it is actually....

a reflection...
